Water is a very scares commodity. Pure, clean and potable water is even more so. According to statistics, 25,700 liters of water are required to grow a day’s food for a family of four. In a single day, 200 million hours are spent by women around the world collecting water for their families. And in certain countries, as much as less than half of the population has reliable access to clean potable water.

The scarcity of water around the world finds expression in many other statistics and anecdotal observations in academic and research studies. Water purification touches the highest level of human interaction with the water resource. To further demonstrate the criticality of clean water, here’s another statistic worth considering: As much as 80% of all illnesses found in the developing world is said to be water related.
