Major shopping malls are some of the heaviest users of water. This comes from among others, lots of restaurants preparing meals on a daily basis, throughout the day. As a result, all malls need to have a good water management plan to fulfill compliance with wastewater discharge regulations.

A deliberate wastewater management approach in a mall also helps to reduce the high water bills incurred by malls due to their high consumption volumes. It is also important to treat discharge properly as it can lead to foul odours emanating from grease traps, which could put off customers.

Beyond the benefits of reducing the water bill, treating wastewater onsite in a shopping mall could also bring with it other environmental benefits, such as water recycling and wastewater minimisation. Through water recycling, wastewater could be converted to greywater which could then be used in other areas in the shopping mall that do not require purified potable water, like flushing of toilets and other processes.

Our Approach to Wastewater Treatment in Shopping Malls

Like all our wastewater challenges, we will first begin by assessing your wastewater scenario. We can treat wastewater up to potable quality. In this, we utilise our coagulants formulations to initiate the waste treatment process with the primary treatment of wastewater.

We use flocculation and coagulants to remove solid matter from the wastewater. Coagulants are used to stabilise and bundle up colloidal water contaminants into large flocs, which are clumps of solid matter. This is achieved through charge neutralisation, absorption and enmeshment. These flocs are then settled at the bottom of the tank and cleaner water goes through to the next stage of purification.

Greywater that comes from water recycling and treatment can then be used in toilets for flushing, among other things. This means you can derive the most out of your freshwater resources, using it sparingly and where it is absolutely required.

Wastewater Treatment in Shopping Malls using Modular Package Plants

Depending on the desired final water quality, we could then take the treatment to the next stage of purification using an even more cost effective process with the utilisation of modular package plants. Modular package plants use a process of reverse osmosis which uses a semi permeable membrane to treat the water coming  through the plant. This negates the need for ongoing use of chemicals to treat your water, thereby reducing your overall treatment operational costs.

Modular package plants are especially useful in a shopping mall environment because they are modular and therefore, are deployed based on your needs analysis. You do not have to invest heavily on massive capital infrastructure that you do not need. The plants are also perfect in that they are quick to deploy, meaning that you will soon start realising the benefits of the plants without having to invest lots of time in the installation of plant infrastructure.
