Desalination
Due to the overall scarcity of water caused by the depletion of surface water resources or drought, many communities have had to consider alternative options for their water resources. In recent years, desalination has become but one of other numerous water sourcing and reuse methods that some communities have considered and pursued where it has been physically and technically possible, e.g, where the community resides close to a seawater body.
Desalination involves the removal of salt content and other dissolved minerals from seawater and has become one of the most adopted methods of repurposing seawater for potable use. Although this is often done along coastal lines where there’s the availability of seawater, it can also happen in the interior at locations that extract their water resource from contaminated sources such as brackish water from acid mine drainage (AMD),
Desalination involves the separation of salt and other dissolved minerals from water. One method involves reverse osmosis, which forces pressurised saline water through a semi-permeable membrane in a way that inhibits the passage of dissolved solids, including salt.

Our Approach to Desalination
INWASO GROUP uses its modular package plants in its desalination process. Because the plant uses a semi-permeable membrane in a reverse osmosis process, they are perfect for desalination and can handle any level of saline concentration. The modular package plants are also ideal as they are decentralised, making them very flexible and versatile to deploy.
This versatility means you don’t require large amounts of land assets to deploy the plants. Being modular also means that you only take what you need and are not saddled with a huge capital investment that is superfluous. Desalination is ideal for any community that requires an alternative water resource or a community that relies on groundwater resources that are beset with brackish groundwater.
